Ankeny Fire Department Invites Residents to 2017 EMS Week Open House

ANKENY, Iowa (May 15, 2017) – In honor of National Emergency Medical Services Week, the Ankeny Fire Department invites the public to attend the 2017 Ankeny Fire Department EMS Week Open House Wednesday, May 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Ankeny Fire Department Headquarters located at 120 NW Ash Drive.

The open house will offer educational activities for all ages with a focus on safety and injury prevention. Visitors are invited to try on fire gear, escape from the fire safety house, spray water from a fire hose, practice bandaging and splinting, get his or her blood pressure checked, watch a vehicle extrication demonstration, witness the landing of a LifeFlight helicopter at 6:15 p.m. and more. All activities are free and open to the public.

National Emergency Medical Services Week takes place from Sunday, May 21, to Saturday, May 27. This week serves as a designated time to celebrate EMS practitioners and the important work they do in our nation’s communities. Authorized by President Gerald Ford, National EMS Week was initiated in 1973.
