Trees and branches that have a trunk size no larger than 8” in diameter and no smaller than 1” in diameter will be accepted at the Ankeny Maintenance Facility, 211 SE Lorenz Drive. Twigs, tree roots, stumps and yard waste will not be accepted. Residents are asked to have the cut end of their branches stacked at the end of their vehicles for easy removal. Commercial vehicles and trucks larger than a pickup are prohibited from participating in this program. Public Works staff will be on-site to assist residents.

Leaf Collection Days, Oct. 28 – Nov. 19
Dispose of leaves free of charge in the parking lot at Prairie Ridge Aquatic Center, located at 1220 NW Prairie Ridge Drive. Residents may drop off leaves 24 hours a day, Oct. 28 – Nov. 19. Leaves collected in yard waste bags are permitted and may be disposed in the containers provided. Plastic bags and other containers must be removed by the resident following leaf disposal. No open burning is allowed in Ankeny, so take advantage of this free opportunity.

Free mulch and compost
Free mulch and compost is available to Ankeny residents and businesses 24 hours a day, seven days a week outside the fence of the City Maintenance Facility located at 211 SE Lorenz Drive. The compost is made from the wood chips and leaves the City collects during leaf collection days in the fall. The mulch comes from wood and yard clippings that are dropped off and chipped during the City’s tree and branch recycling events. The mulch is rough and has not been dyed; however, it is still effective at retaining moisture and preventing weeds around trees and plantings.
