NE 36th Street is Now Open
The City of Ankeny is pleased to announce NE 36th Street, between North Ankeny Boulevard (U.S. Highway 69) and NE Delaware Avenue, is now open to traffic. This arterial street now has four-lanes, dedicated left turn lanes and raised medians to provide increased traffic capacity and mobility, along with improved safety for both motorists and pedestrians. There is also a new traffic signal in service at the intersection of NE 36th Street and NE Trilein Drive, and the speed limit along the NE 36th Street corridor has been lowered from 45 mph to 35 mph. In addition, there is now an 8 foot wide sidewalk connection on the north side along the entire corridor.
The City of Ankeny encourages motorists and pedestrians to be aware of intermittent lane closures during the month of October while MidAmerican Energy finishes the installation of the streetlights. In addition, the street right-of-way will be landscaped with street trees this fall and ornamental grasses next spring. The final surface restoration of the corridor with permanent seeding will be completed in late spring 2018, once all of the landscaping is completed.
