ANKENY, Iowa (March 17, 2011) – Kirkendall Public Library hosts a monthly workshop for area writers, the Ankeny Writers’ Group. Developed last fall to be an outlet for locals wanting to develop their craft, the writers’ group meets at the library on the last Saturday of the month at 9 a.m.

This month’s program will be presented by author Mary Kay Shanley and is called “The Magic of Our Memories.” Starting off as a newspaper reporter, Shanley has written 10 books including several memoriors about her friends and family.

“Everyone has a story,” said Shanley. “This program will discuss the importantance of our memories and how to share and interpet the past.”

Shanley will touch on how to write your own memoir, from the writer’s vantage point. “You see, understand, remember and interpret the people, places and events that merge to become your story” she said. “Whether you’re already working on your memoir or didn’t think it was worth considering, this program will provide much food for thought.”

This program is free and open to the public. Kirkendall Public Library is located at 1210 NW Prairie Ridge Drive in Ankeny.

Kirkendall Public Library has received funding for this presentation from Humanities Iowa, a private, non-profit state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
