Tae Kwon Do: Children, Older Youth, Adults & Families

Ankeny Parks & Recreation has partnered with the Academy of Martial Arts Inc. to teach martial arts to youth, adults and families. Classes will focus on self discipline, confidence, stress relief, exercise and self-defense. Classes will be comprised of a mixture of ages, unless a need is shown for added space. Promotion exams are every eight weeks. All belts are welcome at any session. Multiple family member reduced rates available if you register in person.

FEE:

  • $70 for residents
  • $84 for non-residents

Hapkido

Hapkido is a type of Korean martial art that provides complete physical conditioning, which improves balance, posture, flexibility, timing, quickness, muscle tone, joint strength and most importantly, confidence through physical and mental discipline. Suggested age is 14 years old and up unless accompanied by parent.

Cartooning Workshop

For a fun and creative learning experience, come to our Cartooning Workshop. Professional artist Gene Hamilton has been working with individuals of all ages for over 30 years, sharing diff erent approaches to the art of cartooning. Gene uses interactive drawing games and teaches participants how to draw cartoon skeletons, action poses, faces, hands, settings and has his students participate in several drawing games and activities. The workshop is for all ages and skill levels. This four week program will be held at the Outdoor Education Center 610 NE 36th St. All workshop materials are provided.

dog obedienceDog Obedience Classes

Ankeny Parks and Recreation has teamed up with The Pooch Academy LLC to off er you dog obedience classes. Proof of vaccinations must be brought on first day of class. Contact instructor Jessica Lohry at info@thepoochacademy.com with any questions about class content.

FEE:

  • $100 for residents
  • $120 for non-residents

BASIC OBEDIENCE

Basic Obedience teaches you how to communicate with your dog including sit, heel, walk with a loose leash, come and stay. You will learn how to use these commands to conquer bad behaviors and be amazed at how much your relationship with your dog will improve through basic obedience. Students are required to bring a collar, leash and a small bag of dog treats.

PUPPY PRESCHOOL

Get your new puppy started on the right paw with this fun and informative class! Learn how to effectively communicate with your puppy and begin building a life-long relationship. Classes include socialization with people and dogs, behavior problem prevention and solutions, and introduction to obedience. For puppies 8 weeks - 6 months old. Please bring vaccination records, puppy on a leash, and a bag of small treats to the first class.
