Reading Logs

Reading Logs will be available for ALL ages (infants-adults) on Wednesday, May 31.  Prizes may be claimed beginning on Monday, June 5 through Monday, July 31.

 

Story Times in the Park

Story Times will be offered outdoors at various parks in Ankeny this summer! In the event of rain, story time will be held at the library in the meeting room.

Summer Lego Club

Lego Club is offered for children ages 5 and up who love to build with Legos and be creative.  Enjoy an open time to build with other Lego enthusiasts!  Lego Club will be held in the Children’s Craft Room.

Open Art Studio

Be creative at the library!  We provide the art supplies, you provide your creativity!  Open Art Studio will be held in the Children’s Craft room on the following days and times this summer:

Open Play Time

Polk County Conservation

We all have a place we call home, somewhere we can eat, sleep, play, and hang out. Just like us, animals need a place they can feel safe, which includes four major essentials. Learn about the similarities and differences our homes share with animal homes, and what we can do to help create homes for animals in need.

 

Hanson Family Jugglers

Thursday, June 22: 10 AM

Appropriate for all ages/Approximately 45 minutes

Hear inspiring stories and watch the Hanson family perform amazing juggling and unicycle tricks they have showcase on two occasions for the world famous Harlem Globetrotters basketball team!

 

Grout Museum Star Lab & Learning Trunks

Monday, June 26: Noon-3 PM

Star Lab Location: Parkview Middle School *parking available at Parkview

Ages 4 and up/Approximately 25-30 people every 30 minutes

Register at the Kid’s Desk for your time to visit the Star Lab (965-6460, option 4). Participants under the age of 13 must have an adult with them in the Star Lab.  Adults must reserve a spot as well.

View the nighttime sky indoors with our portable planetarium.  Participants will learn all about the Constellation Cylinders and Greek Mythology.

Learning Trunks will be available for viewing in the Library Meeting Room.  You do not need to register to view them.

   

Music Concert with Dino O’Dell

Wednesday, July 12: 10 AM

Location: Prairie Ridge Middle School *parking available at Prairie Ridge

Appropriate for all ages/Approximately 45 minutes

Join award-winning educator, author, and songwriter Dinosaur O’Dell for a trip around the world. Whether you’re swimming with the piranhas in South America, jumping with kangaroos in Australia or fixing spaceships in Europe, Dino's stories and songs are not only fun, but interactive and educational.

 

Blank Park Zoo Programs

Location: Library Meeting Room

Appropriate for ages four and up/Approximately 45 minutes

The Blank Park Zoo will be visiting the Library several days this summer!  The Zoo will bring small animals for show and tell. Space is limited, so please plan to attend one program.

Dan Wardell from Iowa Public Television

Appropriate for All Ages/Approximately 45 minutes

Join Dan Wardell as he embarks on his 2017 Reading Road Trip around the state of Iowa.  Dan will encourage kids to turn the TV off, go outside and play and read books through an interactive story.                                                                   

Movies

The Library will show a movie on Wednesday afternoons at 1 PM in the Prairie Ridge Cafeteria.  Bring your own snack and covered drink and enjoy the show! (Parking available at Prairie Ridge)

Children entering 3rd-5th grades are invited to explore the Library Maker Space, “Hatch”.  Registration at the Children’s Desk is required as space is limited – please sign up for only one time slot per month.  Kid’s Hatch is offered the following days and times:

Coding Camps (3rd-5th graders)

Open to children entering 3rd-5th grades who are interested in learning more about coding.  Registration at the Children’s Desk is required as space is limited (Children may register for one coding camp over summer).  Coding Camp will be offered the following days and times this summer:

Poke’mon Club

Pokémon enthusiasts come and enjoy playing Pokémon cards with other players in the Children’s Craft Room.  Instruction on how to play will be available for those new to and no registration is needed.
