The City of Ankeny's Public Works Department provides our residents, merchants, and visitors with safe, clean and reliable infrastructure that is maintained in an economical and efficient manner. This is accomplished through comprehensive annual programs that include:
- Roadway construction and maintenance
- Storm water and drainage
- Street cleaning
- Traffic control
- Street tree planting
- Snow and ice control
- Fleet maintenance
The Public Works Department provides timely responses to streets, storm drainage, and traffic control maintenance issues. Large scale maintenance operations are conducted through major construction or reconstruction projects. The majority of our services are scheduled, pro-active maintenance activities. If you observe a problem, we encourage you to please report it to our office and we'll correct it in a timely manner.
The department is organized into three separate divisions: Engineering, Operations, and Storm Water Utility. The Engineering Division includes 7 full-time employees including the Assistant Public Works Director, engineers and engineering technicians. The Operations Division includes 20 full-time employees including the Public Works Administrator, 15 employees in the Street Maintenance group and 4 employees in the Central Garage group. The Storm Water Utility includes 3 full-time employees.
