The City of Ankeny must review and approve any street tree planting in the public right-of-way prior to planting a street tree within the public right-of-way.  A planting permit should be submitted by the property owner for approval by the Public Works Department - Operations Division.

It is the duty of the adjacent property owner to prune, care for and maintain any street tree within the public right-of-way along their property. The tree branches should be maintained so that they are at least 10 feet above the street and 8 feet above the surface of the sidewalk.

According to the City of Ankeny Code of Ordinances, any street tree determined to be dead, diseased or dying will be removed by the City at no cost to the adjacent property owner.  If you have a street tree in this condition, please call the Public Works Department - Operations Division at 515-963-3525. When you call, please provide the location of the street tree, your name and daytime phone number.
