ANKENY, Iowa (May 14, 2010) - As one of its newest youth fitness offerings, Elite Athletic Performance (EAP) is a unique fitness program that will introduce athletes to a structured strength and conditioning routine. The program includes eight hour-long sessions with a separate class for boys and girls ages 8 to 12 and 12 and above.

Unlike many other programs, EAP focuses on helping athletes increase their potential by using several types of training. EAP incorporates speed and agility training, plyometrics, dynamic flexibility and core training. The drills and resistance training are specifically designed to increase each athlete’s level of performance and prepare to compete at a high level of intensity during a sports season. The program instructor is Demathdian Tate, a strength and conditioning specialist who worked for the Los Angeles Dodgers Baseball organization for six years.

Two full sessions of EAP will be offered during the summer months. The first will run on Tuesdays and Thursdays from June 8 through July 1; the other will run from July 20 through August 12. The class for athletes age 8 to 12 will be from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. and the class for athletes 12 and above will be from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Participants will meet near Northview Middle School, at the park shelter east of the Prairie Ridge Aquatic Center.

Cost is $96 for residents and $116 for non-residents. Registration is available online or can be sent to the Parks & Recreation office at 210 S. Ankeny Blvd. The deadline for the June session is May 26 and the deadline for the July/August session is July 7.
