The City of Ankeny Fire Department is currently accepting applications for current and future openings for paid-on-call firefighters, emergency medical technicians or Paramedics. The Ankeny Fire Department is a combination staffed (full-time and paid-on-call) department that provides fire, rescue and emergency medical services to the city of Ankeny, surrounding communities and rural areas of Polk County.
Applications are being accepted to develop an eligibility list for paid-on-call positions for the fire department. Paid-on-call personnel work scheduled shifts, on-call shifts and respond to call back situations.
General information about this process, paid-on-call employment and the physical and written evaluations will be provided at the Informational Meeting or mailed upon the applicant's request.

Successful completion of post-offer criminal background screening, drug test, and physical required for this position. The City of Ankeny provides an excellent wage package and IPERS to individuals who are offered paid-on-call positions. EOE.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications to apply for paid-on-call employment include:
- Applicants must be 18 years of age
- Possess a valid Iowa driver's license.
- Training will be provided to individuals without fire or EMS certifications
Preferred qualifications include an Iowa or National Firefighter I certification and certification as an Iowa or Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Technician or Paramedic.
Written and physical evaluations must be successfully completed prior to being placed on an eligibility list.
