Book Discussion Groups

The library has book discussions available for all ages and interests. To join, grab a copy of this month's book from the circulation desk and we will see you at the discussion! Registration is not required, but is recommended to receive reminders and updates. Check out our calendar to see what we're discussing next.

Kids

K-5 Book Bites introduces new picture and chapter books while encouraging discussion from kids as a beginner's book club. Recommended for Kindergarten - 5th grade; must be at least 5 years old.
When: Once monthly, dates vary, 3:45 - 4:30 PM
Where: Children's Program Room (first floor)

Tweens/Teens

Tween Book Discussion covers a wide range of middle grade titles, primarily fiction. Recommended for grades 4th - 7th.
When: 3rd Tuesday of the month, 6 - 7 PM
Where: Teen Program Room (second floor)

Books & Bagels allows teens to share their latest reads and swap book recommendations while enjoying bagels provided by the public library. Available for 10th - 12th graders.
When: 1st Friday of the month at Ankeny High, last Friday of the month at Centennial, 7:45 AM - 8:15 AM
Where: High school library media center

Adults

Afternoon Book Discussion reads a variety of genres and styles, primarily fiction. Recommended for adults.
When: Second Tuesday of the month, 1 - 2 PM 
Where: Meeting Room C (first floor)

Evening Book Discussion reads a variety of genres and styles, primarily fiction. This group reads the same titles as the Afternoon Book Discussion, one month later.
When: Third Thursday of the month, 6 - 7 PM
Where: Meeting Room C (first floor)

Mystery Book Discussion focuses on crime novels where you get to figure out who, when, where, and why. Recommended for adults.
When: Second Wednesday of the month, 1 - 2 PM
Where: Meeting Room BC (first floor)

Multi-Generational

Get Lit Book Discussion focuses on current young adult and new adult fiction titles. This discussion group provides an opportunity for teens and adults to share their varying perspectives. Recommended for adults and teens.
When: Second Thursday, every other month, 6:30 - 7:30 PM
Where: Smokey Row (1530 SW Vintage Pkwy, Ankeny)
