Ankeny RAGBRAI Bicycle Bash Come for the Party Ride for the Record

The City of Ankeny is excited to welcome RAGBRAI participants to Ankeny on Wednesday, July 26, 2023.

Ankeny will be a meeting town on the ride from Ames to Des Moines. The ride will start in Ames and bicyclists will ride through Slater, Madrid, Polk City, Ankeny and will end in Des Moines.

This event attracts thousands of cyclists from all over the country, and we are excited to be a part of the route this year. RAGBRAI is celebrating its 50th anniversary and event organizers are estimating up to 100,000 bicyclists could ride from Ankeny to Des Moines.

This event will cause traffic disruptions throughout the city. If you plan to drive a vehicle July 26 in Ankeny, please be aware that there will be delays due to road closures and detours. If you have a business in Ankeny, we encourage you to let your customers know they will need extra time to reach you and they may need to take a different route as nearly all traffic will be impacted. Trash, recycling and delivery services may be delayed. We kindly ask for your patience and understanding as we work to ensure the safety of our residents, participants and spectators.

The official RAGBRAI committee will approve the route through Ankeny in June and at that time we will release it to the public. We will also be communicating a traffic plan directly with neighborhoods and businesses who are on the route. At this time, no further details are available. Thank you for your cooperation, and we hope you can join us in celebrating this exciting event.

The route through Ankeny is still being determined and will be announced in July 2023.
