Starting Monday, March 27, 2023, NE Delaware Avenue from NE 5th Street to NE 15th Street will be fully closed to all traffic to allow for the NE Delaware Avenue Reconstruction Project. The detour route for NE Delaware Avenue is East First Street / North Ankeny Boulevard / NE 18th Street. This is a two-year construction project.
This project also impacts the following intersections:
- The south leg of the NE Delaware Avenue and NE 18th Street intersection will be fully closed to all traffic.
- The north leg of the NE Delaware Avenue and NE 5th Street intersection will be fully closed to all traffic.
- The intersections of NE Delaware Avenue at NE 9th Street and at NE Fountain View Boulevard will also be fully closed to all traffic.
- The intersections of NE Delaware Avenue at NE 15th Street and at NE 16th Street will remain open to west/east traffic only.
These closures will continue through the fall.
The NE Delaware Avenue Reconstruction Project includes:
- Reconstruction of NE Delaware Avenue from an existing two-lane rural roadway into a new five-lane urban street with dedicated left turn lanes from just north of NE 5th Street to just south of the bridge over Fourmile Creek.
- New traffic signals will be installed at the intersection of NE Delaware Avenue and NE 5th Street and at the intersection of NE Delaware Avenue and NE 18th Street.
- The addition of left turn lanes on the side streets adjacent to NE Delaware Avenue, along with the addition of dedicated right turn lanes at all four legs of the NE Delaware Avenue and NE 18th Street intersection.
The 2023 work consists of reconstructing the south half of the corridor from just north of NE 5th Street to north of NE Fountain View Boulevard.
The 2024 work will consist of reconstructing the north half of the corridor from north of NE Fountain View Boulevard to just south of Fourmile Creek bridge.
