Ankeny Fire Department Responds to Large Fire in Storage Facility

Yesterday at approximately 9:34 PM, the Ankeny Fire Department was dispatched to the Storage Mart, 205 SE Delaware Avenue, for a large fire. Initial reports from an adjacent property indicated they could see something on fire and could hear explosions. The incident was quickly upgraded to a second alarm, which dispatched additional resources from Altoona, Bondurant, Johnston-Grimes, Saylor and Polk City fire departments.

The Ankeny Fire Department arrived on scene in just a few minutes and found smoke coming from multiple storage units and heavy fire coming through the roof of the building.  Crews immediately began to force entry into numerous storage units and deploying hose lines to extinguish the fire. Crews applied water from hose lines and a tower ladder for several hours to extinguish the fire. There were no injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation. No other information is available at this time.

The Ankeny Fire Department would like to thank the Altoona Fire Department, Bondurant Fire Department, Johnston-Grimes Metropolitan Fire Department, Saylor Fire Department, Polk City Fire Department, Ankeny Police Department, and Polk County Sheriff’s Office Communications.
