Mayor Gary Lorenz
Gary Lorenz has been serving the community as mayor of the City of Ankeny since December 2012. Prior to serving as mayor, Lorenz served two terms as an Ankeny City Council Member. After a three-year hiatus from the City Council, Lorenz was asked to fill the vacancy created by then Mayor Steve Van Oort’s election to the Polk County Board of Supervisors in 2012. Lorenz accepted the call and was appointed by the City Council to fill the remaining balance of the term. Lorenz then ran unopposed for mayor in November 2013 and was re-elected for a second term in November 2017.
In addition to his responsibilities as mayor, Lorenz has served the community as a member of the Waste Water Reclamation Authority Board and Executive Committee, Metropolitan Planning Organization, BRAVO, Greater Des Moines Convention and Visitors Bureau, Metro Advisory Council, Greater Des Moines Partnership Board and Executive Committee, Mid Iowa Association of Local Governments, currently serving as chair, Ankeny Area Chamber of Commerce Board and Executive Committee, Ankeny Economic Development Corporation, Polk County Aviation Authority along with various other local and regional task forces and committees.
Prior to retirement, Lorenz was part of the ownership team at long-time Ankeny business, Lorenz & Jones Marine Distributors. In 2010, he was honored by the Ankeny Chamber of Commerce as its Small Business Person of the Year. In 2014, Lorenz was honored by the Ankeny Economic Development Corporation as its 2014 Person of Vision.
Born in Des Moines, Iowa, Lorenz has lived in Ankeny since his 1978 marriage to his wife Becky. They have three children and four grandchildren.

Mark Holm, Mayor Pro-tem
Mark Holm is serving his third term on the Ankeny City Council. As a council member, he serves on the City/School Subcommittee, Metro Waste Authority Board, and Ankeny Sports Complex Foundation. Mark also volunteers for the New Horizon Adult Care Center, Ankeny Summerfest Committee, Backpack Buddies and the Ankeny Service Center. Prior to his election to the City Council, Mark served on the Ankeny Zoning Board of Adjustment.
Mark and his wife Kari (Vogt) have three sons. Kari is a surgical nurse at Methodist Hospital. Kari is a graduate of Ankeny High School, Iowa State University and Grandview College.
Mark was raised on a farm near Corydon, Iowa. He has a B.A. degree from Iowa State University, where he majored in political science. He works for the Iowa Department of Transportation and holds the title of Public Service Manager 1 in the Office of Right of Way in Ames, Iowa. In his position, he administers the statewide right of way acquisition and relocation assistance programs.

Kerry Walter-Ashby is serving her second term on the Ankeny City Council. Kerry grew up in Ankeny and returned in 2005. As a council member, she serves on the board of Bravo Greater Des Moines, Ankeny Community Engagement Advisory Committee, and the Uptown - Ankeny Association. She also served on the steering committee for the Ankeny 2040 Comprehensive Plan.
Kerry is an alumna of the Ankeny Leadership Institute and the Ankeny Citizens Police Academy. She chaired the steering committee for the creation of Ankeny Miracle Park and worked with others to gain Ankeny’s designation as a Home Base Iowa community. Kerry volunteers with the Ankeny Miracle League program, Ankeny BackPack Buddies, Ankeny Alumni Association, Ankeny Community Foundation, Ankeny Dollars for Scholars, Ankeny Kiwanis Club, Project Fresh Start, and 100 Women Who Care - Ankeny. In 2016, Governor Branstad appointed her to serve as a Commissioner on the Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service/Volunteer Iowa. In 2019, Governor Reynolds reappointed her to a second term, and she became chairperson of Volunteer Engagement.
Kerry was selected by the Ankeny Area Chamber of Commerce to be the 2015 Outstanding Citizen of the Year.
Kerry has taught at Iowa State University, the University of Missouri-Columbia, and DMACC; she earned an undergraduate degree from Northeast Missouri State University (Truman University) in English and a Masters Degree from Iowa State University in English Literature. She teaches fitness classes through Ankeny Community Education and the AFUMC Christian Life Center.
Kerry graduated from Ankeny High School in 1986, and her husband Todd Ashby graduated from Ankeny High School in 1987.

Bobbi Bentz is serving her third term on the Ankeny City Council. Bobbi grew up in Ankeny and moved to the community in 1980. She and her husband Adam have three children and are actively involved in a variety of youth sports and activities in Ankeny. Adam is a realtor with Charter House Real Estate in Ankeny.
Bobbi currently represents Ankeny on the Greater Des Moines Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, the Metropolitan Planning Organization and the Metro Advisory Council. During her three terms on the Council, she also served on the Bravo Greater Des Moines Board of Directors and the School/City Committee and was a member of the Ankeny Comprehensive 2040 Plan steering committee. Bobbi spearheaded 100 Women Who Care Ankeny in 2017 and is a Board member of Art for Ankeny.
Bobbi graduated from Ankeny High School in 1997. She has an undergraduate degree from Cornell College in Economics and Business, two Masters' degrees from the University of Iowa in Health Administration and Public Health, and is completing her PhD from the University of Iowa. Bobbi is an Executive Account Manager at Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield. Bobbi is the current chair of the Congenital and Inherited Disorders Advisory Council for the State of Iowa and serves on the Board of Directors of the Iowa Chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives.

Jeff Perry is serving his first term on the Ankeny City Council. As a council member, he serves on the Des Moines Metropolitan Wastewater Reclamation Authority Board and Central Iowa Regional Drinking Water Commission.
Jeff and his wife Sylwia have lived in Ankeny since 2013. Sylwia is a corporate attorney for Wells Fargo.
Jeff was born and raised in Battle Creek, Michigan. He has a B.A. degree from Western Michigan University, where he majored in political science. He works as an Operational Risk Consultant for Wells Fargo.

Kelly is serving her first term on the Ankeny City Council. Kelly grew up in Marshalltown, IA, and with various relocations for work, has chosen to live in Ankeny twice.
Kelly and her husband, Trever, have two children. Trever works in the golf industry and manages the couples’ small business. The Whiting family likes to volunteer as a family and have served as a foster family.
Kelly is active in the insurance industry and is the Vice President of Business Development at RAS, a workers’ compensation insurance company. She is a graduate of Iowa State University.
