Progress Update

The intersection of NW Irvinedale Drive and NW 5th Street will continue to function as a three-legged tee intersection, with the east leg fully closed.  The intersection will function as an all-way stop sign condition until next spring.  The remaining work items, including the paving of the third lane of NW Irvinedale Drive, the paving of the east leg of the intersection on NW 5th Street, the installation of the new traffic signal, all remaining sidewalk and trail paving, and miscellaneous associated work will be completed in the spring. -- updated 12/18/19

Two lanes of NW Irvinedale Drive have now been paved from north of West 1st Street to just south of NW 9th Street.  The third lane and tapers along the east side will be paved next spring.  It is anticipated that NW Irvinedale Drive will be open to the general public by mid-December; however, it is extremely dependent upon weather conditions over the next two weeks.  The public is warned not to drive on the corridor until all barricades have been removed, as the project remains an active construction zone with numerous items to still complete prior to winter.

NW 5th Street to the west of the intersection is now tied in to NW Irvinedale Drive.  It is anticipated that NW 5th Street from NW Boulder Brook Boulevard to NW Irvinedale Drive will also be open to the general public by mid-December.  NW 5th Street will continue to remain closed to the general public until NW Irvinedale Drive between West 1st Street and NW 9th Street is open.

NW 5th Street to the east of NW Irvinedale Drive will not be permanently paved until next spring, after the third lane along the east side of NW Irvinedale Drive is constructed.  NW 5th Street between NW Irvinedale Drive and NW Greenwood Street will not be open to the general public over the winter; it will continue to remain a dead end with access provided only for the adjacent property owners.

Once opened in mid-December, the intersection of NW Irvinedale Drive and NW 5th Street will function as a three-legged tee intersection, with the east leg fully closed. -- updated 11/27/18

The retaining wall along the west side of NW Irvinedale Drive just south of NW 9th Street, along with the 24” transmission water main between West First Street and NW 9th Street, are completed.  Remaining utility work includes roughly one week of storm sewer installation and 12” water main lowering at the east leg of the NW Irvinedale Drive and NW 5th Street intersection, along with a small amount of storm sewer installation just south of NW 9th Street adjacent to the retaining wall.  Roadway grading and subgrade preparation will also commence during October, followed by rock subbase placement and concrete paving of the streets in November.  All remaining work is extremely weather dependent. -- updated 10/9/18

Utility work is ongoing.  Current work includes installation of the 24” transmission water main south of the intersection, followed by the remainder of the storm sewer at the north end of the project adjacent to the new retaining wall.  Once all utility work is complete, the roadway grading and subgrade preparation will commence.  It is anticipated that the intersection will reopen to traffic sometime in November, weather dependent. -- updated 9/19/18

Stage 2 work on NW Irvinedale Drive from south of NW 5th Street to NW 9th Street is ongoing throughout the summer.  Current work operations include the installation of the storm sewer, followed by the construction of the retaining wall.  Stage 3 work on NW Irvinedale Drive from north of West 1st Street to south of NW 5th Street will occur in the fall.  Both NW Irvinedale Drive and NW 5th Street will remain closed until the project is complete.  The detour route for the closure is West First Street, NW Weigel Drive, and NW 18th Street. -- updated 7/24/18
