Make some memories at the Mayor’s Tree Lighting

Post Date:11/26/2019 9:59 a.m.

Ankeny Mayor Gary Lorenz and the City Council invite the community to the fifth annual Mayor’s Tree Lighting with a special holiday fireworks finale! This free event will be held Friday, Dec 6, 6 – 7 p.m. at AMP (Ankeny Market & Pavilion) located at 715 W. First St. in Ankeny.

New this year, the Ankeny Fire Department is asking for the community’s help to ensure that children in need can experience the excitement and joy of Christmas through the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots campaign. Guests are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy to help the Ankeny Fire Department fill an ambulance with toys during the event. The event will also feature entertainment from DJ Taz, an ice carving demonstration, Santa and Mrs. Claus, free hot cocoa and more.

“I hope this event has become one of your family traditions. The holiday lights and music, along with Santa and the fireworks provides a hometown feel; perfect for making memories with family, neighbors and friends,” said Mayor Lorenz.

Families are encouraged to return to Uptown Ankeny on Saturday for Christmas in Uptown. Starting at noon, guests will enjoy Santa’s special adventure, treats, specials, shopping, gift wrapping and horse drawn wagon rides.
