Ankeny Police Department launches new Crime View Program
The Ankeny Police Department is launching a new program called Crime View, an effort to partner with residents and businesses to help solve crimes. The department is asking residents and businesses in Ankeny to voluntarily register their doorbell camera or exterior camera and video surveillance systems. The program will allow the Police Department to leverage a network of community surveillance footage when the need arises, while saving critical time.
“This program gives the Ankeny Police Department the opportunity to partner with our community and local businesses in order to use the current technology to help solve critical investigations faster,” said Ankeny Police Chief Darius Potts.
The Ankeny Police Department will only contact registered camera owners if a criminal incident occurs within the vicinity of the respective security camera and if the investigators believe the footage could assist in the investigation. Investigators would then ask the registered camera owner to let them review video during the time period in which the incident occurred. The Ankeny Police Department will not have remote access or be able to access cameras without a resident’s knowledge. Being part of the Crime View program is completely voluntary. Residents can learn more about this new program and register online at www.ankenyiowa.gov/crimeview.
