Post Date:06/26/2020 1:58 p.m.

On June 6, 2020 at 12:26 a.m., Ankeny police officers were called to respond to a fight at 517 NE Delaware Ave.  Upon their arrival they observed a large amount of blood in the hallway and on the sidewalk near this building.

A group of individuals were having a get together when an acquaintance, Juan Carlos Moreno-Martinez, arrived uninvited and tried to incite a fight.  After a brief argument, Moreno-Martinez entered the apartment of one of the subjects and retrieved his friend’s dog, which is a Cane Corso Pitbull mix.  Moreno-Martinez attempted to get the dog to attack one of the subjects and a female attempted to intervene.  The dog attacked her leaving significant injuries to her arm. The dog then attacked Moreno-Martinez biting his leg and arm causing significant injuries.  He had left the scene prior to officers’ arrival and went to Ankeny Fire Station No. 1 to be treated.  Officers briefly interviewed Moreno-Martinez at the fire station and he stated the dog attacked him and he stabbed it multiple times, killing the dog.  Moreno-Martinez was then transported to the hospital to be treated for his wounds.

After an investigation by Ankeny Police detectives, arrest warrants were issued for Moreno-Martinez.  He was located and placed under arrest on June 25 and is currently in the Polk County Jail on multiple charges.
