All pets six months and older must have a current license in Ankeny. Residents are allowed up to four dogs or four cats or a combination not exceeding four animals per household on a residentially zoned lot.

Ankeny Dog Park passes are $25 for residents and $35 for non-residents. All dogs visiting the park are required to have a park pass as well as a current pet license. Park passes are good through Dec. 31, 2017.

Pet licenses and Dog Park Passes may be purchased at City Hall, 410 West First St., or the Ankeny Parks & Recreation Office, 220 W. First St., Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. An application also is available at The form, payment and a copy of vaccination verification can then be mailed to City Hall for processing. A $1 postage fee per license is required for renewals by mail. Pet licenses and Dog Park passes can also be purchased at both Ankeny Hy-Vee customer service counters.

The deadline for obtaining a pet license is March 31, 2017. No penalty will apply until April 1, 2017, even if a pet owner did not obtain a license in 2016.
