NE 36th Street Construction Update

Post Date:06/28/2017 3:37 PM
As a part of the NE 36th Street Reconstruction – Phase 2 project, the intersection of NE Trilein Drive and NE 36th Street will be closed to all vehicular and pedestrian traffic starting Wednesday, July 5, weather permitting. This closure will likely remain in effect until NE 36th Street, from just east of North Ankeny Boulevard to just west of NE Delaware Avenue, is reopened to traffic. The estimated date for reopening NE 36th Street is late summer/early fall, depending on weather conditions for the remainder of the construction season.

Traffic will continue to be detoured around the construction site for the duration of the project. The marked detour route for through traffic is to utilize NE 18th Street via North Ankeny Boulevard and NE Delaware Avenue. Additional signage will remain posted for motorists traveling to Briarwood Golf Course, Des Moines Orthopaedic Surgeons, First United Methodist Church, and the Outdoor Education Center.

The project’s construction is currently running six to eight weeks ahead of schedule. When complete, the project will provide increased traffic capacity and mobility due to the tremendous growth this corridor has experienced in the last five years. The improvements will also help improve safety for both motorists and pedestrians.
