The Ankeny Parks & Recreation Department is currently seeking volunteers to serve as ambassadors for the Ankeny Dog Park.

Dog Park ambassador responsibilities include facilitating a fun and enjoyable environment, ensuring all patrons have a permit visible while using the facility and informing users of the rules and requirements for the Dog Park. Ambassadors are allowed to bring his/her dog while volunteering. In return for volunteering two hours per week, ambassadors will receive a free Dog Park pass for 2018.

If interested in becoming an ambassador, contact Recreation Supervisor Whitney Garcia at or call 515-963-3573 to sign up. No previous dog obedience training is needed. New ambassadors must attend a mandatory orientation seminar March 6 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Ankeny Parks & Recreation Office, 220 West First St. Topics such as body language, park regulations and owner-to-owner etiquette will be covered during the orientation.

The Ankeny Dog Park is located at the corner of SW Ankeny Road and SW Goodwin Street and is open year-round, from sun up to sun down. All dogs visiting the park are required to have a park pass as well as a current pet license. Ankeny Dog Park passes are $25 for residents and $35 for nonresidents and can be purchased at the Parks & Recreation Office or City Hall.

For more information about becoming a Dog Park ambassador, please visit or contact Whitney Garcia at 515-963-3573 or
