Ankeny Police Investigate Two Deaths

Post Date:06/07/2018 2:10 p.m.
On Monday, June 4, 2018, at approximately 10:22 a.m., the Ankeny Police Department was sent 305 Harvest Park Drive for a welfare check and discovered two bodies inside the residence.

Ankeny officers were asked to meet with an employee of the Autumn Ridge Mobile Home Park who had concerns about the well-being of the residents inside. Upon entering the home, Officers discovered two bodies in a moderate to advanced state of decomposition. Ankeny Detectives and the Polk County Medical Examiner were called to the scene to investigate.

An autopsy was completed by the Polk County Medical Examiner who confirmed the identities of the decedents as:
Lonnie Robert Perry
Age 45

Karen Jayne Edsinga
Age 44

Further findings from both the autopsy and evidence at the residence determined the cause of death for Karen Edsinga was a self-inflicted gunshot wound and ruled a suicide. Lonnie Perry’s cause of death was a gunshot wound and ruled undetermined. The undetermined status for Mr. Perry was due to the difficulty in determining if the gunshot was self-inflicted or at the hands of Ms. Edsinga. Evidence at the scene suggests both parties’ actions were consensual.
