City of Ankeny Offers Flood Debris Removal Assistance to Residents

The City of Ankeny will be assisting residents with flood damaged items by offering a drop off site and curbside pickup.

Curbside pickup will start July 9
(all items must be placed on the curb by Monday, July 9 at 7 a.m.)

Residents must call 515-964-5229 or email (custserv@ankenysanitation.com) Ankeny Sanitation no later than 4 p.m. on Friday, July 6, 2018 to request curbside pickup.

 Flood damaged items accepted for curbside pickup:

  • Household items
  • Carpet (must be rolled up and under 5 ft in length)
  • Drywall
  • Furniture
  • Mattresses
  • Plumbing
  • Computers
  • Televisions
  • Radios
  • Stereos
  • All other electronics

What is not accepted for curbside pickup?

  • Appliances must be dropped off at the Drop Off Site July 3, 5 or 6 between 7 a.m. – 4 p.m. (see below) If residents are unable to haul appliances, curbside pickup can be arranged with Ankeny Sanitation, however the resident will be responsible for the removal fee.
  • Yard waste/vegetative materials
  • Hazardous waste - cleaning supplies, batteries, lawn chemicals, oils, oil based paints & stains
  • Tires

7 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Proof of residence is required.

Roll-off dumpsters will be available for residents to drop off the following flood damaged items:

  • Household items
  • Carpet (must be rolled up and under 5 ft. in length)
  • Drywall
  • Furniture
  • Mattresses
  • Plumbing
  • Computers
  • Televisions
  • Radios
  • Stereos
  • All other electronics

Appliances including:

  • Air conditioners
  • Dishwashers
  • Freezers (all food must be removed)
  • Refrigerators (all food must be removed)
  • Stoves
  • Washers
  • Dryers
  • Water heaters
  • Dehumidifiers

Assistance will not be available for unloading debris at the drop off site. Tires, tree limbs/branches and yard waste will not be accepted at the drop off site.

Additional Assistance

The City of Ankeny is partnering with Polk County on private property damage assessments due to the flood. If you had water in your basement or experienced any other damage to your home because of flooding, please call 211 to report the damage. 

Polk County is hosting a flood disaster recovery center located at Polk County River Place, 2309 Euclid Ave. in Des Moines. The center will be open Monday, July 2, from 1 – 6 p.m. and Tuesday, July 3, from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. The center will be closed Wednesday, July 4, to reassess resources and services for the remainder of the week.

DART will be providing free rides from the shelter or to the flood disaster recovery center. Individuals can also contact 211 for additional resources and questions regarding the flood recovery center.
