On July 7, 2018, a home burglary was reported at 3906 SW Sawgrass Parkway in Ankeny. During the investigation, neighbors provided information to include suspect and vehicle descriptions, along with surveillance video of a potential suspect. On July 17, police arrested Dewayne Edward Rowley for this crime when investigators conducted a search warrant at his home in Pleasant Hill, Iowa.

Detectives used the quality surveillance video, which depicted a very unique tattoo pattern on the suspect’s arm, and matched that to the suspect using a recent booking photo. This case generated a fair amount of social media activity in the area and Ankeny Police would like the public to know suspect was arrested. This case highlights not only good police work but also how citizens can make a huge impact by simply remaining vigilant and partnering with the police department by providing video and sharing information.

This case is still open as detectives continue to look into any other related crimes associated with this case. It is possible the suspect tried to enter at least one other home that night in the same neighborhood.

Suspect: Dewayne Edward Rowley, DOB 7-18-1966 of Pleasant Hill, IA
Charges: Burglary 3rd degree, Attempted Burglary 3rd degree, Theft 2nd, Possession of Methamphetamine, Cocaine, and Marijuana.
