Ankeny Police Investigate Double Fatality Crash

On Saturday, Aug. 25, 2018, at approximately 8:37 p.m., Ankeny Police responded to the 400 block of S. Ankeny Blvd. in reference to a motor vehicle collision involving two vehicles. Arriving officers discovered a pickup truck had left the roadway and went into the parking lot of McDonalds where it struck a second vehicle. Both vehicles came to rest in the parking lot of Taco John’s located just north of McDonalds.

The two occupants of the truck were pronounced dead at the scene. The two occupants in the vehicle that was struck by the truck were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

The deceased were identified as:

Ronald Girtz (age 50) from Pine City, Minnesota

Brad Stover (age 41) from Colfax, IA

The investigation is ongoing, but speed is believed to be a critical factor in the cause of the accident.  If you have any information or witnessed what occurred, please contact the Ankeny Police Department at 515-289-5240.
