Ankeny residents are encouraged to purchase their pet license and Ankeny Dog Park pass now for 2019.

Pet licenses are required by law for all dogs and cats living within Ankeny city limits. The license fee is $10 per pet and current certificate of rabies vaccination is required at time of application. All pets six months and older must have a current license in Ankeny. Residents are allowed up to four dogs or four cats or a combination not exceeding four animals per household on a residentially zoned lot.

Ankeny Dog Park passes are $25 per dog for residents and $35 per dog for nonresidents. All dogs visiting the park are required to have a park pass as well as a current pet license. Dog Park passes are good through Dec. 31, 2019. New this year, effective Jan. 7, 2019, the Dog Park gate will be locked and all Dog Park pass holders will use an access code to enter the park. The access code will be assigned when the Dog Park pass is purchased.

Pet licenses and Dog Park passes may be purchased Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., at:

City Hall, 410 W. First St.

Ankeny Parks & Recreation Office, 220 W. First St.

An application is also available at The form, payment and a copy of vaccination verification can then be mailed to City Hall for processing. A $1 postage fee per license is required for renewals by mail. The deadline for obtaining a pet license is March 31, 2019.

Dog Park Ambassadors are needed for 2019!

Dog Park ambassador responsibilities include facilitating a fun and enjoyable environment, ensuring all patrons have a permit visible while using the facility and informing users of the rules and requirements for the Dog Park. Ambassadors are allowed to bring his/her dog while volunteering. In return for volunteering two hours per week and fulfilling all duties, ambassadors will receive a free Dog Park pass for 2020.
