Ankeny Police Officer’s Conduct Justified in September Officer Involved Shooting
Last week, a Polk County Grand Jury met and was presented with evidence related to the officer involved shooting that occurred on Sept. 15, 2018. After reviewing and carefully considering all of the admissible evidence, the grand jury returned with a decision of no indictment.
On Saturday, Sept.15, 2018, at approximately 4:33 p.m. Ankeny Officers were sent to Hy-Vee Gas, located at 1710 SW Oralabor Rd., for a robbery in progress. Officer Todd Webb located the suspect, Christopher Lee Leonard, near Kum N Go at 1910 SW White Birch, where Mr. Leonard drew his weapon and pointed it at Officer Webb. Officer Webb discharged his firearm, striking and killing Mr. Leonard.
