Appliance & Electronics Recycling Day, May 4

Appliance and Electronics Recycling Day gives Ankeny residents the opportunity to recycle most items free of charge, however a fee is charged for monitors and televisions based on the size of the unit.

Ankeny Cleanup Days, May 18, 19

Got junk? Get rid of it! Ankeny residents are able to dispose of items that commercial haulers charge for or do not pick up. Trucks larger than a pickup are prohibited from participating in the disposal of cleanup debris.

 Tree & Branch Recycling, May 18, 19, June 22

Trees and branches that have a trunk size no larger than 8” in diameter and no smaller than 1” in diameter will be accepted. Twigs, tree roots, stumps and yard waste will not be accepted. Residents are asked to have the cut end of their branches stacked at the end of their vehicles for easy removal. Commercial vehicles and trucks larger than a pickup are prohibited from participating in this program.

Free mulch and compost

The City of Ankeny offers free mulch and compost to Ankeny residents and businesses. The mulch and compost are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week outside the fence of the City Maintenance Facility.

The compost is made from the wood chips and leaves the City collects during leaf collection days in the fall. The mulch comes from wood chipped during the City’s tree and branch recycling events. The mulch is rough and has not been dyed; however, it is still effective at retaining moisture and preventing weeds around trees and plantings.

Participation in these events is restricted to Ankeny residents living within the corporate city limits. There is no fee, however participants will be asked for proof of residency.
