South Ankeny Boulevard and SE Shurfine Drive/SW Prairie Trail Parkway Intersection Improvements Project Starts Monday, April 22

The City of Ankeny will start work on the South Ankeny Boulevard and SE Shurfine Drive/SW Prairie Trail Parkway Intersection Improvements Project Monday, April 22. Northbound and southbound traffic along South Ankeny Boulevard, in the vicinity of SE Shurfine Drive, will be restricted to one lane in each direction for most of the construction season. Construction is expected to be completed in November. The speed limit on South Ankeny Boulevard from DMACC Boulevard/SE Lorenz Drive to SW/SE Magazine Road will be reduced from 45 mph to 35 mph for the duration of the work. For the safety of the construction workers, drivers are encouraged to slow down through active construction zones.
In May, SE Shurfine Drive, from South Ankeny Boulevard to west of SE Oak Drive, will close to all traffic and remain closed for most of the construction season. The designated detour route for northbound South Ankeny Boulevard traffic wanting to utilize SE Shurfine Drive will be SE Lorenz Drive and SE Oak Drive. The designated detour route for southbound South Ankeny Boulevard traffic wanting to utilize SE Shurfine Drive will be SE Magazine Road and SE Cortina Drive.
The South Ankeny Boulevard and SE Shurfine Drive/SW Prairie Trail Parkway Intersection Improvements Project will improve traffic safety and mobility by adding dedicated left and right turn lanes on all four legs of the reconstructed intersection. Other improvements include:
• a new permanent traffic signal
• the connection of SW Prairie Trail Parkway to South Ankeny Boulevard
• associated pedestrian and landscaping improvements
