SE Shurfine Drive closing at South Ankeny Boulevard starting Thursday, May 9
The City of Ankeny will close SE Shurfine Drive at South Ankeny Boulevard on Thursday, May 9, in conjunction with the South Ankeny Boulevard and SE Shurfine Drive/SW Prairie Trail Parkway Intersection Improvements Project. The closure of SE Shurfine Drive will be from its intersection with South Ankeny Boulevard to just west of SE Oak Drive and will be in place for most of the construction season.
The designated detour route for northbound South Ankeny Boulevard traffic wanting to utilize SE Shurfine Drive will be SE Lorenz Drive and SE Oak Drive. The designated detour route for southbound South Ankeny Boulevard traffic wanting to utilize SE Shurfine Drive will be SE Magazine Road and SE Cortina Drive. View detour map.
The northbound and southbound through traffic on South Ankeny Boulevard will also be shifting lanes to allow for the reconstruction of the existing southbound lanes in the vicinity of the intersection. In addition, the recreational trail along the west side of South Ankeny Boulevard will be closed from DMACC Boulevard to SW Magazine Road for approximately three months. The speed limit on South Ankeny Boulevard from DMACC Boulevard/SE Lorenz Drive to SW/SE Magazine Road will continue to be reduced from 45 mph to 35 mph for the duration of the work. For the safety of the construction workers, drivers are encouraged to slow down through active construction zones.
The South Ankeny Boulevard and SE Shurfine Drive/SW Prairie Trail Parkway Intersection Improvements Project will improve traffic safety and mobility by adding dedicated left and right turn lanes on all four legs of the reconstructed intersection. Other improvements include:
- a new permanent traffic signal
- the connection of SW Prairie Trail Parkway to South Ankeny Boulevard
- associated pedestrian and landscaping improvements
