Ankeny Fire Department to participate in “We Remember” recognition

    Post Date:05/14/2019 9:26 a.m.

The Ankeny Fire Department will join departments across the country in honor and support of public safety personnel who struggle with post-traumatic stress disorder and to remember those who have taken their own lives as part of the “We Remember” program. On Friday, May 17, 2019, at 9 p.m., the Ankeny Fire Department will place emergency apparatus in front of all three Ankeny fire stations and activate the emergency lights for one full minute to honor and remember.

Ankeny fire stations are located at 120 NW Ash Drive, 665 SE Oralabor Road and 1360 NE 36th Street in Ankeny. The Ankeny Fire Department and the Firefighter Behavioral Health Alliance encourage anyone who would like to participate to join their local firefighters or to simply stand in their driveways with a lit candle to remember the families who are suffering through these preventable losses.

The Firefighter Behavioral Health Alliance (FBHA) reports that mental health has become a major concern in the fire service and the alliance remains committed to honoring those firefighters who struggle with these issues through the course of serving their communities.
