Ankeny completed a special census on Dec. 10, 2014, that showed the population to be 54,598. The 2018 estimate puts the population at 65,284 and today, the estimate stands at 67,000+. Ankeny’s population has more than doubled over the last 15 years. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Ankeny is now the 9th largest city in Iowa.
“Ankeny offers a hometown feel with first class amenities. The residential growth is only one part of Ankeny’s success. Last year was another record breaking year for commercial investment. To be recognized in the same month by the U.S. Census Bureau as one of the fastest growing cities and by the SBA, as the Small Business Community of the year, speaks volumes that Ankeny is not only a great place to live but also an excellent place to do business,” said City Manager David Jones. “Our growth is driven by the vision of the Mayor and city council, dedication of our employees and the outstanding residents who call Ankeny home. We expect to see this continue well into the future.”
