    Greetings! I am the Information Technology Director for the City of Ankeny. I have been with the City since 1997. I was hired as the first full-time staff person devoted to the City’s growing computer needs, my initial task was to “create a web page for the City of Ankeny and network the various offices”. That first web “page” has grown to thousands of pages and the network from two small LAN’s with some shared files and MSMail to a City wide WAN/LAN with Microsoft Windows, virtualized servers, Exchange mail, web hosting, SQL databases and scores of commercial software applications covering 16 staffed buildings using fiber optics. From half a hundred computers handed down through the ranks in 1997 to over 300 PC workstations, laptops, servers, and mobile computers today the City staff has come to depend on the power of data communication under the guidance of the IT Department.

    I have BS and MS degrees from Iowa State University. I applied my classroom training in my previous position with the Des Moines YMCA and learned additional computer skills on the job as I built their first UNIX based client server network. I transferred those skills to the current Windows and PC based environment with the City of Ankeny and continue to learn as the technology needs change. I supervise three staff in the IT Department who support our end users and maintain our network assets. I manage the IT budget, plan our City's technological direction, and work on special projects.  Basically, if it is voice or data communication software and hardware, I have a role in it.
