The Ankeny Fire Department Public Education Office strives to reduce fires and prevent injuries through education. Public education efforts of the Ankeny Fire Department include station tours, site visits to schools, preschools, and daycares, fire safety house visits to all third grade classes, fire extinguisher training, fire and fall prevention programs, CPR classes, and smoke detector programs.

The Ankeny Fire Department also hosts two educational open houses throughout the year.  The fall open house takes place in October during Fire Prevention Week and focuses on fire safety and prevention.  The spring open house takes place in May and focuses on safety and injury prevention.  Both events feature interactive activities for all ages.
