2. Downed Trees and Branches

If there are branches, trees, or debris blocking driveways or on private property clearing them is the home owner’s responsibility. City of Ankeny staff will clear branches blocking public streets.

When does Ankeny pick up storm debris?

If you have a downed tree, branches, or debris in your yard after a storm event, watch the City of Ankeny’s website, Twitter, or Facebook accounts, or call City Hall at 515-965-6400 to see if the City is going to provide a storm debris cleanup program. The decision to pick up fallen branches/debris from a storm is determined by the City Manager based on the severity of the storm and the extent of the damage.

If a city-wide pickup is not announced, your garbage hauler will collect yard waste in bags or bundles. Contact your hauler for more information.

How do I report downed branches on power lines?

If there are branches, trees, or debris on the power lines contact Mid-American Energy at 888-427-5632.

3. Manhole is Sticking Up, Sunken Down, and/or Rattling

If the manhole is sunken down or sticking up, it may need to be dug up and adjusted to grade. If the lid is rattling, the City of Ankeny will determine what needs to be done to correct the manhole.

Please let us know if the manhole is in the street, right-of-way, or yard.

4. Manhole Lid/Storm Intake Grate is Missing or Broken

If you come upon a manhole lid or storm intake grate that is missing or broken, stay away. Never go in an open manhole or storm intake. If possible make sure nobody else goes near the open manhole/storm intake.

Please let us know if the lid or grate is missing, broken, or moved off the opening.

5. Missing Street Sign

Please provide the nearest address to the missing street sign along with the direction you were traveling in.

Before filing a report, please be aware that the Iowa Department of Transportation is responsible for potholes/debris/roadkill along state highways, including:

• Interstate 35
• US Highway 69 (North and South Ankeny Boulevard)
• Iowa Highway 415 (SW State Street South of SW Oralabor Road and SW Oralabor Road West of SW State Street)
• Iowa Highway 160 (Oralabor Road between I-35 and SW State Street)

The estimated response time is dependent on weather conditions.

If your vehicle has sustained a flat tire or damage on roads within Ankeny city limits, please contact the City Clerk’s office at City Hall at 515-965-6400 for information on filing a claim.

If your vehicle has sustained a flat tire or damage along any of these roads, please contact Ed Mahoney at the Iowa Department of Transportation at 515-261-9514.
