The Ankeny Mayor's Youth Council provides Ankeny's young people with an active role in addressing youth issues. Fifteen high school students are appointed to serve as volunteer representatives to advocate on behalf of Ankeny youth, inform them of existing opportunities and listen to suggestions on what the City can do to improve its youth oriented efforts. Serving on the Mayor's Youth Council offers leadership experience and active community involvement with the guidance of the Mayor, City Council and Ankeny Parks & Recreation.
The Mayor's Youth Council spends the majority of its time sponsoring and participating in community outreach events including:
- All-City Play Day
- Ankeny Leadership Symposium
- Ankeny Youth Triathlon
- State Capital Tour
- Adopt a Family
- Mayor's Bike Ride
- Meals From the Heartland
- Creepy Capers - Halloween Party
- Operation Christmas Child
- Midnight Movies
Meetings are open to the public. We encourage the public to attend and to bring any questions, comments, or concerns you have and share them with us. We meet bi-monthly on Wednesdays at the Parks & Recreation office.
