Ankeny is home to Des Moines Area Community College, which enrolls approximately 10,000 students at its Ankeny campus. Ankeny is also ideally situated on the north side of the Des Moines metro, making the Ames, Iowa MSA and Iowa State University a short 20-minute commute to the north. Iowa State University enrolls over 30,000 students annual, making Ankeny and the Des Moines MSA an ideal stop for interns, skilled labor and recent graduates beginning their careers. A new transload facility located in Des Moines offers streamlined distribution of goods. Operated by Des Moines Industrial, the facility provides is accessible by customers using any of the four major railroads listed above that provide access to the Des Moines metro.
Air Service
Des Moines International Airport (DSM) is located 25 minutes from Ankeny and is Iowa's largest airport. DSM’s six airlines offer on over 160 flights a day to more than 20 nonstop destinations. International flights can be made with one connection to larger cities. DSM serves almost 3 million passengers annually.
Ankeny Regional Airport (IKV) is the third busiest airport in Iowa and is the base for over 200 general aviation aircraft. The airport is located along Interstate 35 and adjacent to three business parks. The 5,500 foot long runway allows access for most corporate aircraft and private flights.
