Community Open Houses

Fire Department Open Houses feature interactive activities for all ages, focusing on fire safety and prevention in the fall and safety and injury prevention.
Fire Station Tours
We welcome tours of our Fire Station Headquarters and Fire Museum, located at Fire Station Number 1, 120 NW Ash Drive. Email to schedule a station tour.
Site Visits
The Ankeny Fire Department will visit your classroom, preschool, business, or community group. We can send a firefighter, an engine, and / or an ambulance. Programs can be customized to present information on a variety of fire prevention and life safety topics. Email to request a site visit to your location.
The Ankeny Fire Department does not participate in drive-by birthday celebrations.
Fire Extinguisher Training
The Ankeny Fire Department offers fire extinguisher training to businesses, educational institutions, and community groups.
- Training uses a Bullex fire extinguisher simulator
- Training is divided into a classroom portion and an outdoor portion where participants may extinguish a live fire in a controlled manner.
- This program can be tailored to meet your group's needs

Fire Plan Reviews & Operational Permits
The Fire Department is involved in the commercial development process to review plans for all new or updated commercial buildings in order to verify the compliance of fire alarms, fire suppression, and other fire protection systems.
