Responsibilities
The Public Works Department's Traffic Engineering Division is responsible for the maintenance and operation of traffic signals and signs, pavement markings, street lighting in the business districts, and fiber optic communications.
Traffic count and speed data are collected, and numerous studies are completed to address safety, capacity, and traffic control concerns.
See our Elementary School Walkability Study.
Pedestrian Beacons (PDF)
To enhance pedestrian conspicuity and increase driver awareness at uncontrolled, marked crosswalks, transportation agencies can install a pedestrian-actuated Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB) to accompany a pedestrian warning sign.
