Street Sweeping removes debris, chemicals, and yard waste from City streets to prevent flooding, prevent storm sewer system backups, and keep contaminants from polluting creeks, streams, and water bodies.
Fleet
The Public Works Department operates two street sweepers from March through December. Water is used as part of the cleaning process to remove debris and lubricate the system. To prevent freezing, the sweepers are not operated during January and February. Street Sweeping operations continuously clean arterial, collector, and residential streets and respond to requests for service. The street sweepers also vacuum out storm sewer intakes as needed.
