Oversize/Overweight Permit

The City of Ankeny requires anyone moving an oversize/overweight load within the corporate limits of Ankeny to obtain an Oversize/Overweight Permit in accordance with City Code Chapter 66 and Iowa Code Section 321.

The annual permit for oversize/overweight loads will allow for the transport of vehicles and loads within Ankeny that exceed the legal limits identified in Iowa Code Section 321, but do not exceed the maximum limits of 156,000 lbs. in weight, 20,000 lbs. per axle, 13’ 6” in width, 15’ 5” in height, and 120’ 0” in length.

Annual permits for oversize/overweight loads or vehicles will be issued to contractors in the form of a standard letter that will need to be kept within the hauling vehicle. Please be advised that the issuance of an annual permit does not supersede the route restrictions or bridge load limits as listed in the Ankeny Municipal Code, nor the regulations and requirements of Iowa Code Section 321.

Apply for the annual oversize/overweight permit by completing the online form and paying the $250 application fee. A 3% convenience fee ($7.50) applies to credit and debit card payments, bringing the total to $257.50. To avoid this fee, pay with cash or check by calling 515-963-3538 to arrange for payment.
